CAPTCHA: Work by Derek Brahney

Brahney's CAPTCHA series is named after the test that secure websites provide to determine whether you are a human or a robot. The acronym stands for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. While the words can sometimes be hard to read, they can also be beautiful, and Brahney thinks of these works as "digital ready-mades." He reproduced these in a completely analog format: as large graphite drawings. However, the images eventually end up as digital again as jpegs on his website, which completes the circle of production.

Brahney's work will be featured in the Infinitive White exhibition at Usagi NY opening July 31st 2015. More details here.
